Aluminum foam sandwich panels were presented at Innotrans 2024 as a new solution for the protection of sensitive roof units on railcars. These not only offer robust protection against external influences such as falling branches, chunks of ice from trees, masts or bridges, but also improve the acoustic properties of the vehicles. In contrast to conventional sheet metal elements, these panels shield noise from the units more effectively, which can noticeably improve ride comfort for passengers and the working environment for train crews. At the same time, the material impresses with its lightness and stability - properties that make it an ideal choice for rail transportation applications.
